Our new plane is finally operational. Please book the aircraft the same way previous planes were.
The club would like to welcome our new instructor Pablo Rovillard. If you would like to schedule some training with him, he can be reached on the club cell phone 629-9626.
Congratulations to former NWFC instructor Lindsey McQueen who has been hired by Wasaya Airways as a first officer on the PC-12.
The airplane we pucrchased has now been delivered! You may go take a look at it at the club. Please do not fly it quite yet until we finish off getting the paperwork sorted out. Thanks to everyone for their patience.
We are making headway on getting a new airplane. We have located a Cessna 172P (newer than what we have had in the past) in Sioux Lookout registered as C-GHBL and are in the process of leasing or purchasing it.
As a follow-up to the February 24th posting, please note that FJOB is only available to existing NWFC students who are completing their training and those individuals working on endorsements until March 31st. It is not available for general rentals. The board is pursuing a new aircraft that we hope to have in place very soon for training as well as rentals. Please check the website often for updates.
Note: The NWFC welcomed Guy Jefford to the Board of Directors today. A complete list of current board members can be found on the website.
An agreement has been arranged!!! The plane will be returned to service by the 25th of February. Business as usual. Any questions contact Jari Saarka at 346-7618. Also there will be a user card for the new GPS /Comm in the aircraft.
The NWFC held our AGM today. Please welcome the new board of directors: Don Bernard, Dean Kowalchuk, Dave Bel, Jari Sarrka and Phill Banks.
The NWFC AGM will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2011 at 1300h at 910 Cobalt Cres at the IBEW union hall. All members and prospective members are invited to attend. Those wishing to vote on a new Board of Directors must be current members.
Congratulations to Kevin Hawryluk on his first solo!
Congratulations to Glen Drews on obtaining his Recreatonal Pilot Permit.
ALL MEMBERS: Please read the Operational Information memo. (Click on the underlined text.)
For security we have changed the combination lock. Please call 629-9626 for the new code.
The booking calendar has been fixed.
It appears that our booking calendar has been hijacked by another organization who has deleted all the bookings and placed a password on our calendar. You may call the cell phone 629-9626 to ensure no one is flying before you head out to the airport for rental.
We have secured a trailer and land lease immediately beside our old location. We will let everyone know ASAP what the code is for the door and access to the aircraft. Thanks to everyone for their patience. On that note, FJOB will be out of commission for the next 2 weeks while we get a new engine installed in the aircraft.
The club has ended their building lease with NOASARA. We are in negotiations with two other building owners to lease office space. We should be all moved in within a week.
Please be advised that QFZ is in the process of being returned to it's owner. We have secured another aircraft registered as C-FJOB. C-FJOB is parked on Apron 5 known as the cabbage patch and access can be made through the club hangar as normal. The documents binder is to be stored either in the aircraft or in the grey cabinet behind the desk in the office. A spare litre of oil is located in the survival bag in baggage area 1 and fuel is to be billed to the account Phill Banks at Shell. Cheques and payments are still made to the Nor'Western Flying Club and everything else is status quo. For key access (lock box code) and any other questions please contact Melesa by email melesahane@gmail.com or 475-7443. Note: At pesent FJOB is undergoing a cylinder break in so please avoid slow flight as much as possible and operate 2400 -2500 RPM as much as possible until further notice.

Congratulations to Cory Ward on obtaining his Private Pilot License.

Congratulations to Peter Mroweic on passing his private pilot licence flight test.
Recently we had a renter encounter a problem with the aircraft and snagged it without telling anyone. Another renter then wanted to rent the plane and had to deal with this issue. If you have a problem with the airplane, you must notify Francis Hane (807) 475-7443 or (519) 729-2443 or email francishane@gmail.com as soon as the snag is discovered.
The club will be hosting a Christmas part on Saturday, December 18th from 5-9PM. All members and their families are invited. The club will be providing finger food. Please RSVP to Melesa ASAP 475-7443 so we know how much food to buy.
Our plane needs to go to Sioux Lookout for a couple hours of maintenance on Friday. If anyone wants to fly the plane there for a cross country at a reduced rate of $100/hr please call Francis 475-7443. First come, first serve.
We were recently audited by Transport Canada to ensure our compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations. We did quite well, however one of the findings involved our Journey logbook. When you are the pilot in command of a flight (solo student or renter), it is YOUR responsibility to fill in the Journey log including signing your name and licence number. A number of pilots filled in the log, but did not sign their name.
Congratulations to Jason Jirovec on completing his Private Pilot License.
Congratulations to Felice Meo for passing his Private Pilot Flight Test.
Congratulations to Dean Kowalchuck on completing his Private Pilot License. Also, congratulation to Dorie-Anna Dueck on her first solo.

Shell has fuelling procedures different from Shell. When you need fuel from Shell, the following procedure must be done:
1. Call Shell for fuel 475-5915.
2. Complete the fuel order form (located on the desk).
3. Give the completed fuel order form to fueller. This form must be complete before the fueller will fuel the aircraft.
There are quite a few members who have expressed an interest in purchasing their own aircraft. Francis has purchased a copy of VRef, which is an aircraft valuation guide, similar to the BlueBook for cars. If anyone wants some information from this book, give Francis a call 475-7443.
We have changed fuel suppliers. Please use Shell when ordering fuel. 475-5915.
Congratulations to Mat Zaranek on passing his Recreational Pilot Permit flight test!
Congratulations to Dean Kowalchuk on his first solo!
It's a busy day for first solos at the Nor'Western Flying Club! Congratulations to both Peter Mroweic and Kylan Pickett on their first solos!
Congratulations to Glen Drewes on his first solo!
Congratulations to Felice Meo on his first solo!
Our former president and founding member of the club, Jason Hughes, has provided the board of directors with his resignation from the board. For our newer members that do not know Jason personally, Jason was responsible for obtaining a government grant to purchase our aircraft (QFZ) for search and rescue purposes, and leasing this aircraft to our club to generate ancillary revenue for the Northern Ontario Air Search and Rescue Association. As club members, we owe a debt of gratitude to our fellow aviator for assisting in getting our club off the ground. If you see Jason kicking around the airport, extend your appreciation to him personally for his tireless effort and commitment to our club. Blue skies Jason.
Students, please remember that there is a $25 cancellation fee charged to students/renters who cancel less than 24 hours prior to their booking.
The Annual General Meeting is being held on Saturday April 24 at 1300 at the hanger. Come out and have a say how your club is run.
Welcome to our new and improved website. But get off the computer and get flying!
Nor'Western Flying Club welcomes the addition of Flight Instructor Lindsey McQueen.
ATTENTION ALL PILOTS
As you may be aware, Nor'Western Flying Club now holds a Transport Canada Flight Training Unit Operating Certificate
allowing us to conduct flight training. As such, certain regulations now apply to Nor'Western Flying Club which did not apply in the past, specifically regarding maintenance procedures.
In the event of a defect, either prior to, or after a flight, the following procedure must be
followed:
Contact Francis Hane or Melesa Hane (807) 475-7443 or (519) 729-2443 and describe the defect.
If you are unable to contact Francis or Melesa, enter the snag into the Defects column of the Journey Log and leave a message on the answering machine.
After consulting with Francis, enter the defect into the Defects column of the Journey Logbook. You may be required to defer a minor defect over the phone. Instructions will be given to you should the need arise. (Don't worry, this is really simple).
At the front of the Journey Logbook is a Deferred Defect sheet. You will find any defects that do not affect the airworthiness of the aircraft on this sheet. DO NOT REMOVE THIS SHEET FROM THE LOGBOOK.
More information on defects and deferral of defects may be found in the Maintenance Control Manual (black duo tang) section 4.3 found in the tall black cabinet.
The maintenance of the aircraft is monitored daily in accordance with the Maintenance Control Manual, however, the Pilot in Command still has the final responsibility of ensuring the airworthiness of the aircraft. This may be done by looking for the last maintenance completed on the aircraft and the statement: Next item due at...
If you have any questions about new procedures, booking a flight, or anything else, contact
Melesa Hane at 475-7443.
